Down is a natural material that is costly to source and process
- Washing: Most down comforters cannot simply be thrown in a home washing machine. They often require professional dry cleaning or a large-capacity, front-loading washing machine to prevent the down from clumping. High heat can damage the fill, so drying must be done on a low setting and can take several hours.
- Protection: To reduce the need for deep cleaning, it is highly recommended to use a duvet cover.
